My Story

I started the company in 2016 after 12 years in the GIS industry.

At that point I had substantial experience working for a consultancy in the energy sector, having worked in a great variety of GIS projects. I started with ArcMap but by 2015, I was working with ArcGIS Pro and had experience working with the ESRI Enterprise System.

As Database Manager, I was responsible for creating and maintaining the datasets needed for the various energy projects as well as producing the geospatial end products that included:

  • Creating maps and GIS analysis

  • Large charts (A0/A1) and figures for reports (A4/A3)

  • Data packages

  • Data conversions (for other software) including CRS conversion

  • Advise on geodetic transformations and data accuracy

My skills included:

  • Digitizing

  • Georeferencing

  • Data transformation from/into various formats

  • CRS geodetic transformations

  • Creating and maintaining global and local datasets in a folder and file geodatabase system

  • GIS Database management including metadata standards

  • Creating toolboxes for automating tasks

  • Creating layouts and templates

  • Spatial analysis

  • Raster/grid  analysis

  • SQL queries and python scripting

From 2017 – 2020, I then worked for a small Swedish- based oil company with a couple of producing fields in Africa and the Baltic region. I was brough in post-installation of the ESRI enterprise system to

  • develop and manage the enterprise platform

  • migrate all existing GIS (from data dumps in folders) to the new enterprise system, creating new database and metadata rules)

  • develop the ESRI Portal

  • train all relevant staff in use of the new platform

  • create easy to use portal maps and apps (using the ArcGIS Web App Builder)

  • create standards for GIS work practices and symbology

  • provide continuous GIS support and training

In 2020, for about 5 years, I then worked for a large British energy company on two substantial modernization projects.

The first project involved a comprehensive modernization of the charting system to the latest ESRI software (ArcGIS Pro) in line with industry best practice

The project included:

  • Providing new templates for ArcGIS Pro including layouts with full automation.

  • Sde schema layer naming and naming in the maps

  • Official symbology for all layers

  • Official labelling rules

  • New chart numbering system

  • New chart management library system in SharePoint

  • New FME workflows for CAD charts – including all transformation needed for:

  • Clipping, Generalizing, Filtering, Symbolizing (using seed file), Labelling and Automated upload of exports to SharePoint library with metadata

  • Product owner for several strategic layers

The second project involved developing a modernized Response app using ESRI Experience Builder.

This included:

  • Compile and assemble a comprehensive list of strategic and tactical response layers

  • Design and create templates for:

    • Tactical layers including all field names, alias, field types and domain types

    • Symbology, grouping, labelling for all layers – ready for publishing on regional portals

    • Experience Builder app with all connections, widget controller, widgets, layouts, buttons, links, tables, panels etc

    • Field Maps and Survey 123 apps

  • Custom create widgets with developer team

  • Testing for performance issues

  • Oversee and provide guidance for all regional deployment of the template

  • Oversee decommissioning of the old templates.
